About the Item

A fantastic little micro-mosaic design gem with turquose colored mosaic inlay by well know Mid-Century Modern designers Jerome (Jerry) & Evelyn Ackerman. The Ackermans began their career in design primarily in ceramics in the early 1950s. After finishing at Alfred University, Jerome worked at the Jenev Design Studio developing ceramic molds, creating various shapes and working on developing different glazes. Evelyn decorated some pieces. In 1960, the Ackermans put their ceramics aside to run their design company Era Industries which in turn launched their careers. This piece was likely designed and made by Evelyn during this time period. Their woks have been exhibited in various galleries and museums including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. They are also recipients of the Henry Award from the Museum of California Design (MOCAD), Los Angeles for their contributions to California design. This piece was acquired directly from the Ackerman's estate along with a few other pieces we will be listing (please see photo from their home studio wall of the couple working on their pottery early in their careers). Would be a wonderful addition to any collectors of their work or an eye-catching work on an existing desk or dresser. Dimensions: .5" high, 3.75" wide, 75" deep.

Doyle Lane Mid-Century Modern Rare Colored Glass Ceramic Pottery Square Form
By Doyle Lane
Located in Studio City, CA
A rare, beautifully designed glass or ceramic form by famed midcentury American artist or potter Doyle Lane. Lane was a glaze specialist much like Glen Lukens and Otto Natzler. His colorful glazes would melt, bubble and crack over his pieces creating a very tactile look and feel. His work ranged from beaded necklaces and pendants to small, delicate vases or weed pots to ceramic sculptures, clay paintings, and large scale wall mosaics (including his most well-known work - an 18-foot mosaic or mural known as the orange wall which was commissioned by architect Welton Becket...
