About the Item

Antique secretary or chest of drawers Switzerland Yew, oak second half of 18th century Dimensions: H x W x D: 105 x 116 x 61 cm Description: Antique sloping flap chest of drawers in an unusual design. We see strong curves in the base area and on the pilaster strips of the furniture. The drawer front and the front of the closed secretary flap are unusually curved. The curves also extend across the compartmentalization of the interior and the outer edge that separates the writing section from the chest-like base. The surface design of the furniture stands in stark contrast to the curves and sweeps. Here we see diagonally arranged, sharp-edged diamonds made of light and dark contrasting yew wood. The interior is kept simple in oak and consists of six drawers, two secret drawers and five open compartments. Exceptional furniture of outstanding craftsmanship.
