About the Item

Stunning and rare late 18th century rosewood fall front bureau desk from Italy. We have never had the pleasure to offer a finer piece of European history! The desk is made from solid rosewood, which we have never seen. The fall front is banded and has gorgeous graining. When the support slides are extended and the writing surface is flattened, the real magic is exposed in the interior of the desk. The writing desk when open measures 31.75 inches in height. The pigeon holes have the most glorious hand carved and shaped partitions, over serpentined and molded drawers. They flank a central molded and concave door, which is flanked by hand carved and shaped columns. The sides of the case are simple and follow down to two smaller drawers over three larger drawers, all with beveled cushion paneled fronts. The hardware is hand cast from brass and in the Chinese Chippendale manner, which adds so much design detail to this piece! This is a chance to own a piece of history, and a very useful and beautiful one at that. This will be the star of any room in which it is placed.
