Precious Wood Bar Buffet attributed to J.Leleu, Art Deco – 1940

About the Item

Remarkable Art Deco buffet bar attributed to the famous French designer and decorator Jules-Emile Leleu (1883-1961). Known for his design of ocean liners, trains, residences, and presidential palaces in the last century. It opens, on the top and front, with a double flap equipped with a functional lock with a key and an inlaid brass entry. The sycamore interior, flanked by original mercury mirrors in perfect condition, consists of a recessed concave section and two small side drawers accented with amaranth trim. The bar function takes on its full meaning through three brass galleries originally intended for glass storage. Below, this sideboard features two doors, each with a lock, key, and entry, inlaid with diamonds, strings, floral motifs, and various woods. The interior of this lower section features a central niche and two adjustable shelves mounted on racks, adorned with friezes along their edges. Two columns tapering towards the bottom constitute the front uprights. They are topped with brass rings and terminate in ornate feet adorned with plaques. The lower crosspiece is slightly cut. This exceptional piece of furniture will delight visitors with its originality, its multiple functions, and the enduring quality of its wood species. ******** Period: 1940.
