19th Century Hand Carved Ludovic Gavioli Organ Figure
Located in London, GB
19th Century Hand Carved Ludovic Gavioli Organ Figure Quite simply, she is beautiful and graceful. This amazing example of a late 19th century hand carved sectioned pine organ figure was produced by the world-renowned Ludovic Gavioli. The detail and expression on her face is what makes this example so delightful, an air of beauty and lifelike appeal in her expression. Personally, we have seen a few figures by Gavioli in the past but this one is special. The detail is of the finest quality and the late 19th century was most certainly when Gavioli produced some of his finest work. Giacomo Gavioli (1786-1875) was considered the greatest of all band organ...

Miniature pocket globe in colourful card box
By Michael Manning
Located in ZWIJNDRECHT, NL
Miniature terrestrial pocket globe. Model of the earth. London, 1857 by J. Manning diameter of 1,75 inches / 4,5 cm. This lovely miniature terrestrial globe consists of twelve copper engraved, hand coloured gores over a wooden base. The gores are varnished. The colouring is both subtle and original. With a central pin contained in a colourful card box. A little about miniature globes: The miniature or pocket globe was a British invention, introduced to the world by Joseph Moxon in 1673 when he produced a 3-inch globe. To own a pocket globe is to have the whole world in miniature. Pocket globes were never to be taken very seriously – they never served any practical purpose; their size makes accurate calculations impossible, and they tend to lack the rings and dials for most common manipulations. No, they were seen more as a status symbol, or a lovely decorative artistic artefact to reside on a gentleman’s desk or small table. There is a school of thought that some of the cheaper pocket globes may have aided children’s education. Today, they reflect a lost and never-to-be-forgotten age of exploration...

Unknown - Painting Fallow Deer with Doe in the Alps, Oil on Canvas 19th century
Located in Berghuelen, DE
Unknown - Painting Fallow Deer with Doe in the Alps, Oil on Canvas 19th century A lovely Biedermeier style oil painting depicting a fallow deer family in the alpine landscape. Oil on canvas 1st halve of the 19th century. Framed with antique gilded frame, stretcher frame replaced. A marvelous wall decoration for each rustig log cabin. The Biedermeier period runs parallel to the Romantic period and both are characterized by similar features. Domesticity, closeness to nature, folksiness and need for harmony are buzzwords of this time. The focus is on the simple, the conservative and the tried and tested. There is little experimentation and more observation and enjoyment. The art style is kept very realistic and shows great similarity to photography. Domestic idyllic representations, beautiful landscape and impressive portraits are the most popular topics for oil paintings...

An amazing early 20th century circa 1900 antique rug with the most elaborately hand woven multicoloured design of scrolling vines with myriad flowers on a cream background. The border is wide, woven with similar multicoloured flowers and scrolling vines.
