Keiko Minami Signed Limited Edition Japanese Etching Print Birds in Tree

Keiko Minami Signed Limited Edition Japanese Etching Print Birds in Tree

Located in Studio City, CA

A beautiful and rather whimsical etching by famed Japanese artist Keiko Minami who was known for her pictograph-like aquatints/etchings with a playful, childlike aesthetic. This work features a natural landscape scene with a pair of birds sitting/nesting serenely in a blooming leaf filled tree. The etching is hand-signed and numbered (16/50) in pencil by Keiko along the lower margin. A rather gorgeous image. Would make for a great addition to collectors of Minami's work or Japanese / Asian art or make for an eye-catching stand-alone accent artwork in about any setting. Minami had many solo shows including: 1960 Minami Keiko...

Japanese Woodblock Print Misty Evening Shinobazu Pond Shiro Kasamatsu
Japanese Woodblock Print Misty Evening Shinobazu Pond Shiro Kasamatsu

Japanese Woodblock Print Misty Evening Shinobazu Pond Shiro Kasamatsu

By Shiro Kasamatsu

Located in Atlanta, GA

A poetically ambient Japanese woodblock print by Shiro Kasamatsu (1898-1991). Entitled "Kasumu Yube, Shinobazu Chihan" (Misty Evening at Shinobazu Pond), the print is one of the best-known landscape works by the artist. In an unusual color variation of near monotone "Arizuri" blue, the print depicts a spring evening by the pond when the sunset is receding into the night. The dim light with a soft glow was wonderfully reflected in the image. Composed in a perspective that is more western view, the image of the figures taking the steps under the Torii gate plays hide and seek through the branches of the weeping willows by the pond. The nearly all blue color, facilitated only with the dark silhouette of the trunk, renders the imagery a moody emotion. On the left margin there is the Title in Japanese (霞む夕べ 不忍池畔)and the artist's name Kasamatsu Shiro...

Japanese Hanging Scroll with Quails, Ink and Colour on Silk, Signed

Located in Fukuoka, JP

A finely detailed Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku) depicting quails (uzura no zu), executed in ink and colour on silk with delicate brushwork and careful attention to naturalistic detail. The composition captures the birds with remarkable sensitivity, reflecting the long-standing appreciation for avian subjects in East Asian painting traditions. Quails have been a favored motif in Japanese art for centuries, symbolizing abundance, harmony, and the changing seasons. The artist skillfully balances the decorative and naturalistic elements of the composition, creating an elegant and tranquil image. The scroll bears an artist’s signature and is accompanied by a double wooden storage box (nijūbako). The outer box is missing its lid. The work originates from an old Japanese private collection (kura-dashi). Japan, Edo period, circa 18th–19th century. Dimensions: * Overall: 182 × 54.5 cm (71.7 × 21.5 in.) * Painting: 103 × 41 cm (40.6 × 16.1 in.) A refined example of traditional East Asian bird painting...
