About the Item

A very rare early 19th Century Irish well figured mahogany turn over leaf gateleg action card Table. This exceptional piece is finely hand carved with beautifully rich patination and grain. The moulded, well cast brass hinged top of rectangular form folds back to reveal a fitted green baize playing surface. Raised over a classically simple shaped serpentine frieze featuring a stunning scallop shell motif to the centre, raised over elegantly tapering cabriole leg with gorgeous acanthus leaf detail on knee, terminating on a fabulous paw foot, finely carved in high relief. Mahogany Type: 'Santos Mahogany'
