About the Item
Amoeba form half inch thick travertine marble top cocktail table similar to Robsjohn-Gibbings' walnut frame 3 spire design for Widdicomb circa 1954. Unmarked. Traces of template drawn lines on underside of travertine indicating top is probably a replacement. Possibly a re-issue by Bexley Heath (Widdicomb successor entity) from late 1980's.
Travertine is clean with more of a honed finish than polished. Some coarse areas around the side edge typical of porous travertine. Walnut base is clean with minimal signs of wear. Tight joinery. Frame itself is 44 inches long and 20 inches wide. Relative weight of top to base allows for just a slight springiness to the long end with the single spire support whereas the end with the double spires feel more stable.
