Antique 18th-Century Rustic Spanish two drawer Warm Brown Chestnut Coffee Table

About the Item

This beautiful antique coffee table originates from Spain and was crafted around 1750. The table is made entirely of solid chestnut wood, known for its durability and rich grain. A striking feature is the tabletop, fashioned from a single, exceptionally wide plank of wood — a rarity that highlights the craftsmanship and quality of the period. The top is securely attached to the base using traditional dovetail joints, an authentic detail from the 18th century. The base of the table includes two drawers, each fitted with hand-forged iron keyplates, original hand-forged steel drop pulls, and decorated with forged nails. The drawer locks were replaced a few decades ago. The table was finished in a deep dark brown stain, followed by several coats of shellac and wax, resulting in a beautiful patina and a rich, deep luster developed over the years. The 18th century in Spain was a period where traditional craftsmanship thrived, often characterized by robust construction, detailed ironwork, and the use of local hardwoods such as chestnut. This table captures that rustic, authentic spirit and stands as a fine example of Spanish craftsmanship from the early Bourbon period. Today, the table is clean, sturdy, freshly waxed, and ready for everyday use.
