About the Item

French Art Deco Wall Console by Paul Kiss, France, Circa 1920. An exceptional French Art Deco wall console by the renowned metalworker Paul Kiss, circa 1920. This elegant console measures 30.3" (77 cm) in height, 36.8" (93.5 cm) in width, and 12.4" (31.5 cm) in depth. The piece is signed “Kiss” on the belt, authenticating its provenance. About Paul Kiss Paul Kiss (1885–1962) was a distinguished Hungarian metalworker, originally from Belabalva (modern-day Romania), who established his career in Paris. After moving to Paris in 1907, he worked with leading metalworkers Edgar Brandt and Raymond Subes before opening his own workshop and showroom on rue Delhomme following World War I. Kiss was known for designing and producing exquisite metalwork, including collaborations with Paul Feher, and restoring historic monuments. His prestigious clientele included the Kings of Egypt and Siam (now Thailand). His work is characterized by intricate motifs inspired by birds, plants, geometric forms, and occasionally human figures. Paul Kiss’s wrought iron creations—ranging from lighting fixtures, stands, consoles, doors, grilles, to railings—are noted for their exceptional technical quality and delicate craftsmanship. His designs often feature slender mounts supporting alabaster, engraved glass, or marble panels and shades. Kiss’s style sometimes resembles that of Michel and Jules Nics, combining traditional forms with masterful artisanal technique. Height: 30.3" (77 cm) Width: 36.8" (93.5 cm) Depth: 12.4" (31.5 cm)
