A fine 19th century Louis XV style Walnut, Ebony and floral marquetry Bureau Plat in the manner of Edward Holmes Baldock, the serpentine shaped top inset with a panel of tooled leather within a border of scroll work and floral trails, the corners with shell and cabochon and foliate clasp mounts, above two frieze drawers decorated with floral marquetry and similar opposing dummy drawers, on cabriole legs applied with scrolling foliate and rocaille mounts trailing to sabots.

Edward Holmes Baldock (1777-1845) is documented in London Trade Directories of the period in various capacities but first appears listed at 7 Hanway Street, London in 1805 described as a '..dealer in china and glass'. But by 1826 the various facets of the business included '..buying and selling, exchanging and valuing china, cabinets, screens, bronzes etc'. Baldock's business seems to have largely involved trading in foreign items and between 1832-7 he was the purveyor of earthenware and glass to William IV and later purveyor of china to Queen Victoria from 1838 until his death. He is known to have repaired, re-modelled and adapted furniture...

18th C. English Architect's Table w/Unique Legs, Expanding Top, & Candle Shelves

An English expandable architect's table with candle stands from the 18th century. This antique table from England would have originally been used as an architects work desk, complete with a pair of small shelves that pull out from either side of that table, that would have supported candles for lighting. The rectangular-shaped top rests atop an apron that houses a faux-drawer with single brass handle, that when pulled, reveals an extension to the table. This slide out wood top is lined with leather, creating an additional writing pad surface. The leather top an also be slid back under the main top, keep legs out, granting access to storage within (see images for more details on this). Carved bracket accents adorn the underside of the skirt against each of the squared outer legs, which partially wrap the outer edges of the nicely-turned inner legs (which are slightly longer and terminate into petite caster feet). Needless to say, this piece has very interesting legs! A curvy x-style stretcher bar braces the legs under the bottom center for additional support. Note that the pull out leather top adds an additional 28" x 13" table top work space, with a floor clearance underneath of 24". This is a sublime satinwood and marquetry desk by Edwards & Roberts, Circa 1880 in date.
This gorgeous desk is freestanding and has been crafted from beautiful satinwood which has been masterfully inlaid with a marquetry of ribbons, swags and garlands.
The rectangular top is beautifully framed with walnut cross-banding and features an inset gold tooled green leather writing surface above seven capacious drawers. The desk is raised on squared tapered legs that terminate in the original brass castors.
It bears the stamp of the renowned cabinet makers Edward and Roberts in the centre drawer.
Complete with the original handles and working loks and key.
This elegant desk will make a wonderful addition to your home or office.
Condition:
In excellent condition having been beautifully cleaned polished waxed and releathered in our workshops, please see photos for confirmation.

An exceptional circa 1820 English regency period rectangular-form writing or occasional table attributed to Gillows having brass bound cusped-corner top with ebony line inlay and satinwood feather-banding surrounding center field of bookmatched amboyna, the double elliptical high arched stretchers joining gilt-brass-mounted end supports having turned calamander spindles and braces issuing turned finials between ebony downswept legs ending in acanthus-leaf-cast brass casters.
