Sycamore Desk by Raphael Raffel with Gilt Bronze Rope Mounts

About the Item

This striking desk is part of a large group of Sycamore furniture designed by Raphael and feature in the 1939 Salon Des Arts Mengers. This show was seen as solidifying Raphaels place with the contemporary luxury interior design market. The follow translation was taken from Guy Bloch-Champfort definitive book on Raphael, "Raphael Decorateaur" "In 1939 The Salon Des Arts Mengers welcomed the - Modern Decorators for the first time. The prestigious magazine Plaisir de France. Reproduces a young girl's bedroom and her boudoir in wavy sycamore and gilded bronze. Pale yellow walls, green carpet. This set of Raphael, elegant, cheerful, bright, alongside in the same article realizations of Printz, Lelue, Prou, Dominique, Jallot" A similar desk can be seen on pages 11 & 18.
