English "Davenport" walnut wood desk, 19th century. Desk with four drawers on the side, inkwell with closure at the top and folding tabletop with key lock. This typology is known as "Davenport" because it was a captain with that surname who first ordered this Gillows of Lancaster furniture towards the end of the 18th century, from which time these desks were made with a variety of remarkable decorative elements. This rectangular table has four legs ended in eagle talons holding balls, and has a drawer and two folding boards (whose name comes from this typology). The decorative simplicity of the work is due to its creation as a mainly functional furniture, although you can see the characteristic use of decorative elements of different traditions, something common in the art of the 19th century.
