About the Item

One of Maison Jansen's most emblematic creations, this exceptional dining table model was first created by Maison Jansen in 1950 and called "Royal", and continued to be produced with slight variations for over 20 years. It is one of the most popular models and can be found in James Archer Abbott's 2007 book Jansen Furniture on pages 232 and 233. The lacquered wood tabletop rests upon a steel frame, with brass ornamentations. The legs of the structure are adorned with gilded rings and mounted wheels, making it easy to move the item around and to add extensions to the original design. This versatile table comes with two 20 inch extensions which can easily be added to the original dining table using the brass latches under the tabletop. This dining table can accommodate many guests when extended. The wooden tabletop's black lacquer creates a modern, sleek design. This unique piece is emblematic of the forward-thinking style of Maison Jansen. Pierre Delbée, president of Maison Jansen from 1967 to 1979, chose the "Royal" model table as a staple in his own much-photographed private home in Paris. Maison Jansen's pieces are known to have sold to monarchs and celebrities such as Jaqueline Kennedy and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, and Hubert de Givenchy. The sleek dining table "Royal" model also appears in the Maison Jansen Catalogue of 1971.
