Early 19th Century Cherry Elliptical Drop-Leaf Hunt Table
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Introducing the exquisite early 19th century elliptical drop-leaf hunt table, an elegant piece of furniture with a rich history and functional design. Made in the style of George the 3rd, this hunt table is a perfect representation of the craftsmanship and style that defined this era.
Crafted from cherry wood, this table stands on square legs, providing stability and balance. The table top measures 85.5 inches in length, 31 inches wide with leaves up, and the table stands at a height of 30.5 inches. When the leaves are down, the table top measures 16.5 inches wide, making it perfect for smaller spaces. The elliptical shape of the table top adds a unique touch to the design, setting it apart from other traditional dining tables.
The leaves of this drop-leaf table are firmly affixed with eight solid brass hinges with slotted screws, ensuring that they are sturdy and secure when extended. The gate legs pivot from the center of the skirt, providing additional stability and support, making it a versatile piece of furniture that can accommodate different numbers of guests depending on the occasion.
Historically, hunt tables were used as a convenient and functional piece of furniture for hunting parties in the countryside. These tables were designed to be portable, easy to move around, and could be quickly set up for a meal or refreshments in the middle of a hunt. During a hunt, these tables would be set up in a designated area, and guests would gather around to enjoy a meal or refreshments. They were also commonly used in the home as versatile dining tables, as their design allowed them to be adjusted to accommodate different numbers of guests.
Today, this early 19th century elliptical drop-leaf hunt table is considered a valuable antique...

Edwards & Roberts was founded in 1845, and had premises at 21 Wardour Street London. By 1892 they occupied more than a dozen buildings in Wardour Street, where they continued to trade until the end of the century. They became one of the leading London cabinet makers and retailers working in a variety of styles, both modern and revivalist. Their business also involved retailing, adapting and restoring the finest antique furniture and there are many examples of their earlier furniture with later embellishments bearing their stamp. Edwards & Roberts specialized in marquetry, inlay and ormolu. Edwards & Roberts was one of the principal London companies working in the taste of the late 18th century. They started business in 1845 and by 1854 were trading as "Edwards & Roberts, 21 Wardour Street, Antique and Modern Cabinet Makers and Importers of Ancient Furniture". Wardour Street became an important furniture retailing area in the second half of the 19th century. The firm carried a fine and complete library...

George III Pembroke Table attributed to Ince & Mayhew
By Ince & Mayhew
Located in New Orleans, LA
This extraordinary George III-period Pembroke table by London cabinetmakers Ince & Mayhew displays the understated sophistication of the late Georgian era. The surface of the table — including both the central panel and the signature Pembroke hinged flaps — is beautifully detailed with satinwood marquetry, inlaid with a fan medallion and foliate motifs executed with the greatest precision and craftsmanship. The table is set upon slender, tapering legs. The design is indicative of the rising influence of and interest in Neoclassical patterns, favoring motifs from nature or Classical antiquity over the extravagance of the Rococo style.
William Ince and John Mayhew joined their skills as furniture designers and cabinetmakers, opening a firm together on Broad Street in 1759. Over the next forty years, the duo would execute many commissions, and develop a volume of engraved designs entitled The Universal System...
