S & H Jewell are first recorded in 1830 as fine quality retailers, restorers and cabinet makers. Elegantly sophisticated, this scarce antique is a wonderful example of high quality early 19th century American craftsmanship. Exhibiting fine detail throughout, the exquisitely handcrafted work table features a hinged shaped top with rounded corners, curved concave front, stunning highly figured matched rosewood inlay complimented by mahogany cross banded edge, set over a conforming shaped case. Lifting the top opens to reveal a fitted interior divided into eight compartments, including a hinged lid with built-in flip-up pin cushion, various size shaped lids are finished in mahogany accented by contrasting satinwood string banded border, a faux drawer front with contrasting mother-of-pearl escutcheon rests above a single frieze drawer with hand carved dovetail joinery and original turned wooden pull. Below, a perfectly proportioned carved, turned and fluted solid mahogany central pedestal rises from a shaped platform base, in true Empire fashion, the base is further raised on ornately carved paw feet.

Refined elegant sophistication at its finest, born in late 18th / early 19th century at the height of the George III Regency period, also known as the golden age of classical English furniture design.
Exquisitely hand-crafted of the finest mahogany, having a rectangular top with warm, rich, highly figured swirl - flame mahogany, contrasting satinwood string banding and intricate cross-banded inlays, covered with an optional later glass top, above a trio of drawers affixed with beautiful gilt brass lion pull hardware, the center drawer opening to reveal a divided interior fitted with numerous compartments, richly grained mahogany veneered lids, and a lovely Worcester porcelain desk set.
Above the drawer a pull-out panel with inset green felt functions as both a writing - work surface extension and brushing slide.
Flanking the main drawer, a pair of drawers slide-outward and open to reveal brass hinged large panel mirrors that can also be used to double the work surface, when lifted the mirrors can rotate and additional lidded storage compartments are revealed, including a pin cushion for sewing, horse hair bristle brush, and divided slots coin compartment.
Having elegant clean lines, simple apron, highest-quality reinforced drawers to support the additional weight and allow them to fully extend, all rising on tapered square legs, terminating in patinated brass capped feet with casters.

This is a superb antique mahogany serpentine fold-over card table, circa 1880 in date.
This splendid card table is made of the finest quality mahogany and features a hinged foldover shaped top with a demi-lune motif of fanned satinwood & green stained hare-wood surrounded by radial spurs of bell-flowers between swagged bands, bordered with satinwood cross-banding outlined with stringing.
The frieze inlaid with fluting and having a bow front drawer to the centre adorned with swagged bell-flower chains, with further pendant garlands leading down the square tapering legs on spade feet.
The quality and attention to detail throughout are second to none.
THE BOTANICAL NAME FOR THE MAHOGANY THAT THIS CARD TABLE IS MADE OF IS SWIETENIA MACROPHYLLA AND THIS TYPE OF MAHOGANY IS NOT SUBJECT TO CITES REGULATION.
