About the Item

Designed by Ico Parisi and produced by Fratelli Rizzi in Cantù around 1957, this unique square low side table is one of a kind. It has three flush drawers on one side, two open compartments on two other sides, and a closed surface on the remaining side. The piece incorporates three architectural elements that are typical of Parisi’s design language. It stands on a recessed plinth, which gives the body visual elevation, and it has continuous architectural reveals, which are shadow lines that give structure to the surfaces. The drawer handles are set back. Produced in Cantù, a center of Italian cabinetmaking, the table exemplifies Parisi's close collaboration with Fratelli Rizzi, whose workshop produced many of his designs. The table is an example of precise, practical postwar Italian furniture design, exemplifying the synthesis of modernism, craftsmanship, and spatial thinking. It is documented in Luisa & Ico Parisi, Markus Winter, Berlin, 2008.
