Kaare Klint Pair of 'Propeller' Stools Side Tables in Ash and Canvas

$24,600per set

About

Kaare Klint for Rud Rasmussen, foldable ‘Propeller’ stool or side table model 8783, darkened ash, canvas, Denmark, design 1930, manufactured 1960s Pair of 'Propeller' stools or side tables by Kaare Klint. Klint designed the model 8783 in 1930. The nickname ‘Propeller’ comes from the legs that unfold in the shape of a propeller and each leg is also winding in form.  When not in use the stool takes minimal space as it folds together perfectly into a frame. When the stool is opened the legs stretch apart and the canvas top is tightened. On top of the canvas a wooden tray can be placed so that the stool actually becomes a side table. The darkened ashwood shows admirable grain and also beautifully contrasts with the off-white canvas when used as a stool.    The ‘Propeller’ stool was never manufactured during Klint’s lifetime. A prototype was made in 1956 and exhibited at the Danish Museum of Art & Design in the same year. But it was not produced until 1962 and exhibited again at the Copenhagen Cabinetmaker’s Guild Furniture Exhibition in 1964 Rud Rasmussen.  Kaare Klint (1888-1954) was a Danish architect and furniture designer. Klint can be seen as the father of Danish midcentury design. Klint was the son architect Peder Vilhelm Jensen-Klint who as an architect, designer and artist is mainly known for designing the Grundtvigs Church in Copenhagen. Kaare Klint himself has walked the same path from architect to designer. In 1924, Klint founded the Art Academy of Copenhagen where he was professor of furniture design. Klint worked and thought along a few strong principles being the importance of former styles and believed that the only way forward was to have a deep knowledge of craftsmanship. One of his other core design principles was to research functionality and deep knowledge of the working of the human body. Klint drew inspiration from the Shakers, Chippendale and Biedermeier. Kaare Klint's style from the 1920s and 1930s has had a lot of influence on other designers in both Europe and the United States. Amongst others, Hans Wegner, Børge Mogensen, Finn Juhl and Poul Kjærholm have taken influence from Klint.   VAT within the EU: When buying or delivering an item within the EU, VAT usually applies and will be added.
