Art Deco Vanity Desk And Mirror Gilbert Rohde for Cavalier A beautiful American art deco streamline design circa 1930s by Gilbert Rohde. This rare set of vanity desk with drawers and rotating tray and mirror were designed by Gilbert Rohde (1894-1944)) for Cavalier Furniture. The mirror is of octagonal form and two decorative borders. The desk is equipped with a frieze drawer over the knee hole and a pedestal of swing out drawer/tray over three drawers. Its proportion is appropriate to be used as a writing desk. One of the striking features of the piece is the ivory-color handles and knobs that were generously used throughout to contrast the darker wood. The piece is number stenciled on the back. Marked with a brass emblem in the drawer and presented on original castors for easy movement. Rohde designed such pieces in similar Art Deco style for several companies simultaneously in 1930s until Herman Miller became insisting on the exclusivity. The production by Cavalier is considerably smaller than Herman Miller and this is one of the fine examples which still retains the metal Cavalier emblem tag. The size of the mirror: 28.25"h, 26"w, vanity: 30.75"h, 44.25"w, 18"d.
