About the Item

A most elegant and high quality true pair of Italian 19th century Neo-Classical st. Rosso Antico marble and ormolu wall plaques. Each striking plaque is framed within a circular mottled ormolu border with a fine seashell reserve at the top flanked by beautiful foliate movements. At the center are the handsome Roman soldier and the elegant maiden set on their original Rosso Antico marble backgrounds. The soldier is wearing his impressive armor and helmet with a griffin and fine etched foliate patterns while the maiden has her hair tied up and is draped in a shawl. All original gilt throughout.
