18th Century Framed Family Crest Oil Painting on Canvas

About the Item

18th Century Framed Family Crest oil painting on canvas is a wonderfully well preserved work in part because of the lavish frame that was added to protect it during the late 19th century. Such family crests were of extreme importance to nobles and families related to royalty as such associations set them apart from their peers and established their importance in European society. Inscription in Latin at the bottom translates to "Vigilance and Wisdom", then underneath that signed by the artist named D. Johan Seger and dated October 15, 1738. Dated 1738. Measures 23H x 20W.
