Abstract oil painting on masonite - female figure w/ beautiful bold colors ( likely Thelma - the wife of Zoute ) Leon Salter ( 1903 - 1976, North Rose NY ) aka Zoute - self taught artist painter. He was an integral part of the great modern wave / well exhibited during his lifetime. He painted from 1940-1954 - in 1954 upon the passing of his beloved wife Thelma - he never again painted. Zoute was represented by a number of NYC galleries during the 1940's and early 1950's w/ one man shows - Grand Central Galleries / Mortimer Levitt Gallery / Joseph Heller Gallery. He exhibited at Museum of Modern Art NYC / Whitney Museum NYC as well as many other prominent galleries and museum exhibitions. He was chosen to exhibit at the invitation only State University of Iowa International show alongside a very select group of the most important artists of the day - such as Braque, Klee, Picasso - 1946-1947. His work was critically acclaimed in the New York Times - calling him the best colororist of the day. More biographical information available upon request to buyer.
