Abstract modernist oil painting on canvas female nude ( his wife Thelma ) signed lower left corner Zoute '40. A great example of his earliest work. Zoute' - born Leon Salter 1903-1976 North Rose NY. Zoute was a self taught artist. He was well exhibited in his life time. He painted from 1940-1954 and was part of the great modern wave. One man shows represented at NYC galleries - Mortimer Levitt, Joseph Heller, Grand Central Galleries... Exhibited Museum of Modern Art, Whitney, Carnegie, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art... more. Selected to exhibit with Picasso, Braque, Klee along with the a small group of the most important artists of the day at the invitation only State University of Iowa International Show 1946-1947. More extensive biographical information available to buyer. In original wood frame the measurements are 41" h x 34" w x 1" d. Stretched canvas size is 37" h x 30" w.
