About the Item

Oil on canvas painted in 1951 by French artist Jean-louis Bouchez (1905 -1983). The spring landscape features an apple tree in blossom in shimmering colors in the foreground, with a small hamlet of houses in the background. Framed in an antique blackened wood frame from the 1950s. Artist's signature lower left. On the back of the painting on the stretcher, a label indicates the location, around Pontigny in the Yonne department (Burgundy - France). Pontigny, near Chablis (French wine region), is famous for its abbey, an ancient monastery of the Cistercian order. Founded in 1114, in northern Burgundy. --- Jean-louis Bouchez was a French painter born in 1905 and died in 1983. A landscape painter, he traveled mainly in France and the Middle East. He spent several periods in the Burgundy region (France), in the Yonne department near Paris. Paintings entitled "Automne sur l'Armançon" (1938) and "Déversoire à Dannemoine" (1949) bear witness to this. On October 29, 1985, part of his studio was sold at the Drouot auction house in Paris by the Millon-Jutheau firm (Gazette Drouot Oct. 18, 1985). --- Dimensions : With frame: 49.5 x 41 cm / 19.48 x 16.14 in.
