About the Item
Large, very well done oil on canvas representing the Portrait of a mathematician, a professor, leaning on his elbows and holding a ruler.
This painting has a very beautiful frame, with a large gilded and worked frame. The mat is in green velvet enhanced with fine gold strips around the painting.
Baroque style, 17th century.
This painting was made from a painting by the famous Dutch painter Ferdinand Bol entitled portrait of a mathematician tracing a geometry figure.

Ferdinand Bol (1616 - 1680) was a Dutch (United Provinces) painter, engraver and draftsman of the Golden Age, the 17th century, author of portraits and paintings on biblical subjects. He was one of Rembrandt's best students.
The works of Ferdinand Bol belong to the baroque style. He is one of the so-called “old Dutch masters”.
In France, the Louvre Museum has several of his paintings, including the portrait of a mathematician.
