About the Item

Masonic Sheepskin Man Portrait We are proud to offer a highly unusual subject matter oil on canvas painting by the recently deceased Cornish artist James Scrase. A fine example from a member of the Royal Society of National Portraits members, trained under the guidance of Italian artist Annigoni in the early 1970s. James produced some wonderful piece of art in many different mediums. The unusual thing about this portrait is not only the fact that the subject sits proud in a sheepskin coat as his best attire, but also the fact that the artist name is hidden in the note painted in the background. This signature can only be read with a light shone across it from the left-hand side of the painting. Additionally, the face that this portrait is framed within a hand carved wooden, gold gilt painted symbolic Masonic frame makes this quite an unusual item. The frame alone is of great significance and the craftsmanship in the detail is of great quality, the portrait is named Malcolm Dudley Orchard born 1934 but his D.O. D is not completed. Size in inches approx.: H 40” x W 34” x D 3.5” Age: Unknown Origin: Cornwall Condition: This item is completely solid in structure and form, aged well with faded paint across the surface with natural patination, please review all the photos provided to review its condition as part of this sale.
