About the Item
A hand-painted ‘mise-en-carte’ or point paper. This was the template used to create a woven textile. Pencil drawn grid lines represent the warp and weft. The margins contain hand written instructions for the weaver pertaining to color, preparation of the loom, etc. In the corner is a label indicating the pattern name (Velours Ghazan) and cataloguing information from Felix Vanoutryve & Cie, a major textile manufacturer originally based in Mouscron, Belgium. Other examples of point papers can be found in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, and The Philadelphia Museum of Art, among others. This example is now float mounted on a silk mat so you can see the full margins and framed behind UV protective plexiglass. Framed size is 27.5" x 37.75". Sheet size is 22.5" x 32.5".
