Ron Zick 2002 “The Sleepers”

About the Item

A beautiful oil on canvas by the late noted artist Ron Zick. It is signed and dated lower right. Titled “The Sleepers” upper center of the painting. A lovely painting in good condition with some minor marks. From AskArt a bio from his Daughter: Ron Zick, a self-taught artist who passed away in 2024, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire and captivate. Born an only child to hard-working immigrants in Oshkosh Wisconsin, Ron spent his childhood honing his drawing skills and pursuing his insatiable curiosity for the arts. He was a Vietnam War vet who held a career as art director for an advertising agency and as a lead designer for a playground equipment company. Zick’s passion always led him back to painting. He meticulously studied the techniques of the Old Masters, delving into the subtle intricacies of undertones and glazes. His admiration for the luminous elegance of Gustav Klimt's art also left an indelible mark on his creative vision, inspiring him to infuse his own works with a touch of opulence and sensuality. Zick's fascination with the human form, especially the female form, was a recurring motif in his art. Through his brush, he sought to capture the timeless beauty and grace inherent in every curve and contour. While Zick produced many original paintings, he also found immense satisfaction in the challenge of replicating the masterpieces of renowned artists, often adding his own touch to correct where he thought it could be better. His uncanny ability to mimic the styles led some to suggest that he could have pursued a career as a forger—a notion that Zick himself found both intriguing and unsettling. Zick was steadfast in his dedication to his craft. His willingness to push the boundaries of artistic imitation served as a testament to his technical prowess and his unyielding pursuit of artistic excellence. Original Painting "Laying in Wait" by Ron Crooks
By Ron Crooks
Located in Coeur d'Alene, ID
Oil on canvas; Framed. Ron painted about 200 oils of Western scenes a year. "I picked Western subjects because they let the artist use landscape, people, storytelling…I think the peak in art was the French Impressionist," he observes. "It is a looseness in style and the paintings that border abstract. I hope my style goes that way. My feeling is that if an artist lives to be 200, he becomes an abstract painter, boiling down all he wants to interpret into his abstract essence. Basically, all painting is abstract. A good painting is a good abstraction." Period: Last half of the 20th century.
