About the Item
A brilliant example of American Cubism, this vividly-hued still life depicts an autumnal array of fruit, green and red grapes, lemons, figs and persimmons, on a table with a blue-and-green checked cloth. The palette of oranges, greens and blues is enlivening, and the perspective, where the fruit seems lifted up to face the viewer, as Cezanne so famously did decades earlier, is arresting. The painter was Helen Manchester, a New Jersey artist. (Dimensions include frame.).
