Vercasson, 6 rue Martel, Paris Materials and Techniques: Colour lithograph on paper Linen backing: Yes Condition: B -- Additional Details: Leonetto Cappiello (April 9, 1875 – February 2, 1942) was a famous Italian artist, mostly known for his work on advertising posters in the early 1900s. He's seen as a key figure in modern advertising and greatly impacted how poster art became a way to communicate visually. His poster work began around 1900 and lasted until the 1930s. He mainly worked with the Vercasson printing house until the early 1920s, then with Imprimeries Réunies, and also started working with the publisher Devambez, where he had an exclusive contract from 1921 to 1936. Advertising poster for the Election watch brand in 1922. The Election company, an Argentine watchmaker from 1905, hired him to make a stylish and unique brand image. The poster shows twelve women coming out of a pocket watch, each holding a Roman numeral for an hour. In 1897, Jean-Gabriel Monnet chose the emblem of the salamander to decorate his bottles. The salamander is a mythical animal with the power to triumph over flames. Leonetto Cappiello is an Italian painter, illustrator, caricaturist and poster artist, naturalized French in 1930. His poster career began in 1900 and continued until the 1930s. He remained loyal to the Vercasson printing press until the early 1920s , continues with “Les Imprimeries Réunies” and begins, at the same period, to work regularly for the publisher Devambez, with whom he signs, from 1921 to 1936, an exclusive contract.
