About the Item
A very rare propaganda poster with the inscription "28 May 1940, Halt, Sire, we will never forget," featuring an image of King Leopold III commemorating the 18-day campaign. This beautiful poster has already been mounted on Japanese paper. This careful process has made it structurally much stronger and thus preserved for the future.
At the bottom is the inscription "Free of Seal," created by Almar Wervik.
King Leopold III protects his war-weary population and soldiers from German bombardments by surrendering the army on 28 May 1940. For the monarch, it was crucial to salvage what could be saved, accepting that the enemy controlled the country. He no longer believed in an Allied victory; the future would prove him wrong. The people were immensely grateful for this, as German bombardments would otherwise have been unavoidable, resulting in many casualties.
In very good condition. The poster has some folds and wrinkles. It is ready to be framed. See the photos for more details!
