About the Item
Artist: Cornelis de Bruijn (or de Bruyn); 1652 – 1726/7 was a Dutch artist and traveler. He made two large tours and published illustrated books with his observations of people, buildings, plants and animals.
This original engraving is a view of Alexandria. The view is taken from outside the city walls, with several people sitting and on horseback amongst ruins in the foreground, with the sea to the left on the horizon, a Roman column left of centre and the city beyond. Voyages in the Levant. Copper engraving. Uncoloured. Size: 64 x 23 cm. (25 x 9 inches).
Alexandria (Arabic: ??????????) is the second largest city in Egypt. It was founded by Alexander the Great in 331 BC as ??e???d?e?a (Alexandria). It is on the Mediterranean Sea, only 225 km (140 miles) northwest of Cairo. Alexandria has 3.8 million people nowadays. It is the main port of Egypt.
The condition of the print is good. Folding lines as issued and a few creases. A few tears have been repaired. Study image carefully.
