Marie R. MacPherson "Blond Satyr" Art Deco Numbered Silkscreen 1940s

About the Item

Allegorical Art Deco silkscreen by Marie Macpherson depicting a partly clothed Blond Satyr playing his flute to a squirrel sitting on an apple tree. Satyr known for their love of music, dancing, wine and trying to seduce women, were companions of the God Dionysus and lived in the woodlands. Our Satyr is a more modern version with human features and no horns. Printed on gray art paper. Signed twice by Artist on lower right - titled on lower left - numbered 18/45 on lower center. Condition: PRINT - very good condition __ Paper - some edges with minor damage. Please look at all images. Dimension: PAPER - 30 inches high x 26 inches wide - IMAGE - 18 inches high x 26 inches wide Marie R. MacPherson ( b.1879- d.1964 ),  studied at The Art Academy of Cincinnati becoming a landscape and portrait painter.  Early in her career MacPherson had worked for well know Ohio potteries, Weller and Rookwood, as an art pottery decorator.  In the mid 1930s, she started creating serigraphs and prints.  After her husband's death, she moved to New York City in 1941 to further her artistic endeavors. MacPherson is represented in the Smithsonian National Gallery of Art.
