About the Item

This rare vintage wall chart shows different types of mushrooms, which are native to middle europe. This kind of wall charts are used as teaching material in German schools. Colorful print on reinforced Cardboard. This type of learning material is becoming increasingly difficult to find because new media means that such an "old-fashioned" way of learning is no longer needed. That's why these wall charts are now very sought after and are often used for decorative purposes. A very nice way to decorate kitchens, or all kinds of rooms in country-core or cottage-core style. Here is some background information on the history of school blackboards: The idea of enhancing everyday school life with pictures was promoted by Johann Bernhard Basedow in the late 18th century. In 1774 he published a four-volume book “Elementarwerk”, which combined images, text and information in just one hundred engravings. Modern printing techniques enabled the spread from wealthy private schools to rural elementary schools. The oldest mentioned series of wall maps appeared from 1820 to 1836 with a volume of six volumes, including 63 large-format maps. The emerging 20th century was the golden age for publishers who printed wall panels. Artists masterfully created images that combined the disciplinary standards of a scientist with the standards of an educator, ultimately creating a great work of art.
