Robert Motherwell Hand Signed Exhibition & Black Lithograph Poster Dance I, 1979

About the Item

A beautiful and engaging lithographic exhibition poster by American abstract expressionist painter, and master printmaker Robert Motherwell (1915-1991) titled "Dance I" (1978). This work is from his 1979 exhibition "Robert Motherwell & Black " which was held at The William Benton Museum of Art at The University of Connecticut, Storrs. The lithograph/print is hand-signed by Motherwell (as well as signed in the plate top right) on wove paper. The original owner went to the opening of the show and had Motherwell sign the piece for her. As such, quite rare as we can not find another signed copy. From the Meriden Gravure Printers Proof Collection. Would be an amazing addition to any collectors of Motherwell's work or modern art collection or eye-catching stand-alone artwork in about any setting. Robert Motherwell was one of the youngest of the New York School, which also included Philip Guston, Willem de Kooning, Jackson Pollock, and Mark Rothko. He is widely considered by many to have been the greatest abstract Expressionist painter of the 20th Century. His works can be found in many prominent collections and museums worldwide. Selected exhibitions include: Peggy Guggenheim's Art of this Century Gallery, New York (1944). Bennington College, Bennington, Vermont (1957) Galerie Heinz Berggruen, Paris, France (1961) Pasadena Art Museum, California (1962) Smith College Museum of Art (1963) The Phillips Collection, Washington, D.C. A very engaging and somewhat scarce work by the Bronx, NY-born controversial American artist Arnold Meches. This piece is one of his from his most recognizable works the chair series that he did in the 1950s/60s and perhaps a bit of a precursor to Andy Warhol's 1967 "Electric Chair" image albeit somewhat less provocative. Signed and dated (1969) in pencil by the artist in the lower right margin. Arnold Mesches...

  • Kaoru Kawano Signed Large Japanese Woodblock Print Dancing Geisha Figure Eshima
    By Kaoru Kawano
    Located in Studio City, CA
A beautiful work by famed Japanese artist Kaoru Kawano who was known for his whimsical portrayals of women, children, and animals. Stylistically, he was one of the first Japanese artists to combine Western-style elements with the traditional methods of woodblock printmaking. This work is known as "Dancing Figure (Eshima)" The print is signed (in white ink within the image) and sealed (in red) by Kawano. This work is a quite rare self-printed lifetime double dai Oban large-size print. The quality and colors are striking. It is likely from a limited edition and perhaps numbered on the lower margin (we can not verify as it was previously framed but we are confident that this is the case). A very beautiful and rich image. Would make for a great addition to any Japanese art and print collection or Stand-out accent work in about any setting. Frame dimensions: 30.5" high, 20.5" wide, .5" deep Viewable art...
