An energetic and vibrant mixed media pulp paper sculpture by William Weege. Hand signed in pencil with an annotation of 21/40 on the lower bottom. Circa 1980s. Original gallery tag from Alice Simsar Gallery, Ann Arbor, MI on verso. An abstract expressionist artwork that has added layers of details such as handmade paper, sewn elements, and added collage. Weege studied city planning and so there is an urban quality found in his body of work. During his career, Weege exhibited widely, and his work is included in many museum collections throughout the United States including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Detroit Institute of Art, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Brooklyn Museum of Art, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. From a private collection. Dimensions: 23.5"h x 31.25"w x 2"d (framed in a shadowbox). In very good vintage condition.
