Total length: 10 in. tassels length: 3.5 in. Made of Moroccan silver ( not sterling) and adorned with enamel and beads and ancient coins. About Fibulas: Moroccan fibulae, also known as Moroccan brooches or fibules, are traditional jewelry pieces that have been used in Morocco for centuries. These fibulae are typically made of silver or silver alloy and feature intricate designs and embellishments. They are often associated with Berber and Moroccan Amazigh culture. Moroccan fibulae vary in size, shape, and design, but they generally consist of a pin and a decorative plate or head. The pin is inserted through the fabric of a garment, and the plate rests on the surface, securing the fabric in place. The decorative plate of the fibula is where the artistic and cultural elements shine. The designs of Moroccan fibulae are often influenced by Berber symbolism and motifs, reflecting the cultural heritage of the region. Common motifs include geometric patterns, interlacing shapes, and stylized symbols representing fertility, protection, or tribal affiliation. The fibulae can also feature engraved patterns, filigree work, or inlaid gemstones, adding to their aesthetic appeal. Moroccan fibulae are primarily worn by women as part of traditional attire for special occasions, festivals, or weddings. They are typically fastened to the front of a dress or a cape-like garment called a haik. The fibulae not only serve a functional purpose of securing the garment but also add a touch of beauty and cultural significance to the overall attire. Today, Moroccan fibulae continue to be valued for their craftsmanship and cultural importance. They are sought-after collector's items and can be found in museums, antique shops, and traditional jewelry stores in Morocco and around the world. They serve as a testament to the rich heritage and traditional artistry of Moroccan jewelry...

Egyptian Revival Plique A Jour Enamel Winged Scarab Insect Brooch Pin Art Deco
Located in New York, NY
A rare Art Deco Egyptian Revival masterpiece of a Winged Scarab Insect Brooch done in Plique a Jour Enamel over Silver. The Museum Quality brooch depicts a winged Scarab beetle, one of the signature motifs of the Egyptian Revival movement. The brooch is done with extraordinary Purple and Green iridescent Plique a Jour Enamel. Plique Enamel requires the skills of a master artisan to create. When finished, the Plique enamel creates a see through enamel which allows light to shine through, reminiscent of a stained glass window. This brooch is a masterpiece of the technique and one of the most beautiful pieces we have seen. The brooch pin is Silver with a gold wash. It dates to the Art Nouveau to Art Deco period, circa 1880-1920. It has its early C-clasp. The brooch could be easily converted to a pendant necklace if desired. Plique-à-jour (French for "letting in daylight") is a vitreous enameling technique where the enamel is applied in cells, similar to cloisonné, but with no backing in the final product, so light can shine through the transparent or translucent enamel. It is in effect a miniature version of stained-glass and is considered very challenging technically: high time...
