Art Deco Diamond Dangle Drop Earrings with Rose Cut Diamonds & Flower Blossoms

About the Item

Dainty and charming, this lovely pair of sparkly rose cut diamond earrings dates to the 1930's late Art Deco period. The pretty diamond drops may be removed from the 14K yellow gold ear wires, allowing one to add other dangle style drops, if desired. Each earring has a small and a larger rose cut diamond, each bezel and prong-set with milgrain edging; the larger rose cut diamond is surrounded by sweet white gold flower blossoms in a rustic wreath design. The smaller rose cut diamonds measure approximately 3 mm in diameter, while the larger diamonds are approximately 5.6 mm in diameter. It's challenging to estimate rose cut diamond weight due to their cut - their spread usually makes them look larger than their actual weight, as compared to brilliant cuts. My rough estimate of the carat weight in the pair is 1.00 carat. (if these were brilliant cuts I would estimate them at 1.5 carats) All four of the diamonds are bright, sparkly and lively. Rose cuts were made to look especially beautiful in candlelight, but I really love their character and the way they throw light in incandescent and natural light, too. Three of the four diamonds are very clean, even under magnification, while one of the larger diamonds does have some imperfections - some inclusions and either a little wear, or some edges were left a little rough when they were hand cut. This can't be seen when the earrings are worn and isn't easy to see with the naked eye at closer range but may be seen easily with magnification. Some can be seen with my macro photography. Often rose cuts were cut in a very rustic way, and these are nicer than many I come across. From the top of the sturdy ear wire's posts, the total drop length of the earrings is approximately 5/8 of an inch (16.5 mm). The finished weight of the pair is 4.61 grams on my scale. It's a nice feature that the drops can be removed and changed out when desired; I do believe the ear wires are from the same period or slightly later in the period than the drops themselves. Under magnification I can see where the loops to dangle the drops were added, as well as the smaller diamonds added to the larger - I'm sure they were together for decades but likely in a slightly different form. Antique jewelry is often modified as tastes change or when loss or damage occurs. Closing securely, the ear wires work well and are easy to operate. These little beauties are ready to wear and enjoy.
