Lovers of the extraordinary appreciate the beauty of Victor Mayer's designs, which use extremely rare techniques such as genuine enamel or elaborate engravings. Since 1890, the company has stood for the finest jewellery Hand Made in Germany. It is an open secret that the most renowned brands, such as Fabergé, entrust the company with the production of their most exquisite collections. Reference: V1728/EB/00/00/101_V1374/00/00/00/10145 Brand: VICTOR MAYER Collection: Diskos Material: 18k white gold Vitreous enamel: translucent royal blue over guilloche ground Measurements: Ø app. 15 mm Chor chain V1374/00/00/00/10145 is included. Length: 45 cm About vitreuos enamel: The inimitably luminous colours are literally created "in the fire": layer by layer, enamel is carefully fired in at 800 degrees Celsius. During guilloching, the finest wave patterns are engraved into the gold, creating a unique depth effect. Vitreous means made of glass: the ancient technique is almost forgotten today and Victor Mayer is perhaps the last manufactory to master it at the highest level. About gold paillons Paillons are shaped emblems of gold foil. They are fused to a pre-fired enamel grounding and coated with clear enamels. This creates an illusion of chased metal...

Antique Seed Pearl and Enamel Yellow Gold Gate Bracelet
Located in Jesmond, Newcastle Upon Tyne
A stunning, fine and impressive antique seed pearl and hot enamel, 21 karat yellow gold gate bracelet; part of our diverse antique jewelry collections. This stunning antique Victorian bracelet has been crafted in 21k yellow gold. The five oval links articulate and alternate with four pairs of linear links. Each oval link is embellished with impressive vibrant royal blue and white hot-enamel*, in addition to applied yellow gold swept cross bars accented with a central millegrain decorated collet set seed pearl. The paired linear links are each embellished with royal blue hot enamel to the anterior surface. This gate bracelet** terminates at either end with a group of five short links and secure with a discrete, integrated push fit clasp. This Victorian gold and enamel bracelet has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as 21k gold. This fine example of Victorian jewellery is supplied with a bespoke, contemporary box. Images do not always reflect the true color and brilliance of gemstones and diamonds. The video however provides a truer representation of the actual color and showcases each stone. * Hot enamel is a material formed by firing powdered glass to create a hardened, durable hyaloid coating; also known as vitreous enamel, deriving from the Latin word 'vitreum', meaning 'glass'. Due to the nature of the ornamentation deriving from glass, opposed to painted alternatives, the vibrant colour does not fade under ultraviolet light and it retains useful properties such as being smooth, hard, durable and easy to clean. ** Gate bracelets came into fashion during the Victorian era. The name 'gate' bracelet alludes to the unusual chain style of interlocked barred panels, emulating the gates and fences of English country estates and castles. Condition This antique gate bracelet...

Antique and Vintage Enamel Jewelry and Watches

From vibrant to subtle, elegant to cheeky, vintage and antique enamel jewelry and watches encompass a wide range of colors and styles, and there are almost as many techniques for creating these distinctive pieces.

Enameling is one of the oldest forms of surface decoration, used to add color to jewelry without having to rely on gemstones. Evidence of enameling goes back to ancient Greece. Throughout history, far-flung cultures favored different techniques. For example, cloisonné enamel was popular during the Byzantine Empire, while artisans living in France and Germany in the Middle Ages preferred champlevé. And Art Nouveau jewelry designers favored plique à jour.

At its core, enamel is the fusion of powdered glass to metal, and artists like enameling because it allows them to add a painterly or illustrative quality to their work.

Cloisonné (“cell” in French) is a technique in the creation of enamel jewelry that sees the use of thin wires of fine silver or gold to outline a design, which is then filled with enamel. The piece is subsequently placed in a kiln where the enamel is melted. Cloisonné is distinct because the individual wires remain visible, forming an outline of the motif.

Champlevé (“level field” in French) enamel is almost the opposite of cloisonné. In this technique, depressions in the metal are made by etching, engraving or chiseling, and then layers of enamel are built up until they rise slightly above the surface of the metal. The enamel is then fired and polished.

Guilloché is a technique in which translucent enamel is applied to a piece of metal that has had designs cut into it using a lathe. After the firing, the patterns on the metal become visible. Guilloché was made famous by Peter Carl Fabergé, whose jewelry house used the technique on many of its objets d’art as well as jewelry.
