THIS IS A SUPERB VICTORIAN PICTURE LOCKET NECKLACE WITH A HAND CARVED HARDSTONE CAMEO OF A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN. THE LOCKET HANGS FROM A WONDERFUL BOOK BELCHER CHAIN. THE NECKLACE DATES TO C1860-1890.
The locket features a stunning hard stone hand carved Cameo of a woman in exquisite clorthes with a beautiful face, wonderful hair and wearing a pendant earring. The work of the artisan is absolutely superb. Carving hardstone cameos requires much greater skill and artistry than shell cameos. This white and black onyx carving is magnificent.
The locket is Gold-Filled with a braided surround on the front. The reverse has an open work filigree design. The chain is a wonderful gold filled belcher link chain of great beauty. I love the design of the 3 bales with their wonderful finish.

This is a magnificent rare early pendant with a bronze medallion of an Angel or Cherub riding in a chariot pulled by two horses. The medallion has a gold filled surmount with two swans on either side with acanthus leaf motif wings. The rare jewel dates to the 18th to 19th Century. The bronze medallion with the neoclassical image of the angel riding the chariot may be quite early. It is exquisite with very fine details throughout and beautiful modeling of the angel's face and body. The horses are in a rearing pose as if taking off or landing. This is a gorgeous neoclassical jewel. The surmount is exquisite with the wonderful swan birds with acanthus leaf wings. These images are very typical of the Gustavian period, circa 1780. The largest, bottom diamond appears round, and the diamonds descend in size, with the middle and top diamond taking a more oval shape. The necklace has a 14k gold back and a silver front—a traditional way of mounting jewelry in the Victorian era. The beautiful diamonds rest in a silver backing, so the stones catch the light and reflect it brilliantly.
