About the Item

A Castellani gold stick-pin, the head in the form of a pine cone with twisted wirework decorations, bearing the double C’s hallmark on the base, all to a yellow gold pin, circa 1860, gross weight 4.7 grams. A collectable stick pin in the form of the ancient Greek wand known as thyrsus. This stick pin comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales and was made in London around 1860 by Castellani. Castellani was known in the nineteenth century for his finely crafted works of archaeological revival jewellery, many of which featured antique techniques. This charming pin features twisted wirework decoration akin to granulation, a technique used in Ancient Etruscan jewellery, and would today make and eye-catching addition to a silk tie. Should you choose to make this purchase we will delighted to send it to you in a Bentley & Skinner handmade leather case packed in a gift-wrapped Bentley & Skinner black and gold presentation box. Shortly afterwards we will send you on a valuation for insurance purposes for your reference and safekeeping.
