Located in Miami, FL
Geometric ring designed by Pierre Cardin. Gorgeous modernist piece, created in France by the Parisian fashion designer Pierre Cardin, back in the 1970. This geometric sculptural ring has been crafted with minimalist patterns in solid sterling silver and yellow gold of 14 karats with high polished finish. This ring is part of the collection created between the 1960 and 1970, when the artist Jean Dinh Van was the creative head in the jewelry department of Pierre Cardin. The design of these rings and other pieces of jewelry from these collections have always been inspired as a design pattern by the letters PC from Pierre Cardin's initials. Composite geometric shapes make up these letters, which although sometimes they are very obvious in the design, in others they are made in a more discreet way. Weight: 9.52 Grams, (6.10 Dwt). Size: 5.5 sizeable. Measurements: 20 mm by 20 mm (0.79 x 0.79 Inches) and raise 14 mm over the finger. Laura Rivalta 1977 Italy Geometric Sculptural OP Art Ring 18Kt Gold With Coral
Located in Miami, FL
Geometric OP-Art ring designed by Laura Rivalta (Valenza 1933-). Modernist sculptural OP-Art piece, made as a wearable ring by the artist-jeweler, Laura Rivalta. This ring has been made around the 1980 in Valenza, Italy and constructed in solid yellow gold of 18 karats , with accents of white gold. All elements are carefully assembled piece by piece and are attached together from the back, by a pair of screws. The design was conceived as one in three dimensions, taking into account the deconstruction of the geometric figure of the circle. It is composed of 6 highly polished and mirrored pieces, two of them are adorned with large semi-circular carvings in the shape of a natural salmon pink coral. the composition creates a three-dimensional optical art effect. This edition was published by La Casa Dell'Arte and made in a limited series of only 12 pieces, this is the piece number 3. The total weight is 21.6 grams and the actual size is 6.75, sizeable. The top’s view diameter is 37.7 mm (1.46 inches) and raise 18 mm over the finger . Stamped, with the artist’s signature and the edition numbers, "L. RIVALTA 3/12 18 KT". Laura Rivalta, was formed within the goldsmith tradition of Valenza, the city where it was born in 1933. She attended international courses in engraving technique at the Raffaello Academy in Urbino. In 1972 she began his research which is expressed through works of graphics, sculptures and gold works that he carries out personally. Laura Rivalta's poetics revolve around the concept of the sacredness of gold. Through gold and stones (semi-precious and hard) the artist symbolically expresses the four elements of nature (earth, water, air, fire). The intent of each form of Laura Rivalta is to make people perceive the hidden music and the pauses of the plasticity of matter: the light penetrates through the transparency of the stone, reflected to be captured within the architectural form of the work according to physical and mathematical laws. In 1973 she exhibited at the Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara. In 1974 she was invited to "Aurea" (Goldsmith Art Biennial, Palazzo Strozzi, Florence). Two years later she took part in the exhibition “Manifestazioni Orafe Italiane” (San Paolo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Brasilia). In the same year, at the invitation of the Civic Museums of Vicenza, she presented his golds pieces in the church of San Giacomo. In 1979 he exhibited at the Rizzoli Center in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele in Milan. In 1981 at the Castello Sforzesco, on the occasion of the exhibition “The Material of the Arts”, he exhibited gold, sculptures and graphics. In 1985 he was again at Palazzo dei Diamanti and in 1986 in Japan (Tokyo, Takanawa, Shibuya) where he exhibited alongside Manzù and Azuma. Diamond and Sapphire Cocktail Rings and Other Antique and Vintage Cocktail Rings

A flashy symbol of wealth during the early 20th century, antique and vintage cocktail rings have gained broader appeal in the decades since for the hefty dose of glamour they bring to any ensemble.

Cocktail rings earned their name for their frequent appearances during glitzy cocktail parties at the height of the Prohibition era. Back then, these accessories were seen not only as statement pieces but as statements in and of themselves. They openly represented a sense of freedom and independence as well as a demonstration of opulence. After all, the 1920s heralded the Harlem Renaissance and Art Deco design, and a slew of social and cultural shifts meant that women in particular were breaking from pre–World War I conventions and embracing newfound freedoms to express themselves as individuals.

Women expressly wore cocktail rings on the fingers of their right hand versus the left, which was “reserved” for an engagement ring or wedding band, accessories definitely paid for by a suitor. And for cocktail rings, the bigger the colored gem at the center — which is usually mounted in a high setting — and the more elaborate the design, the stronger the likelihood of being noticed.

Cocktail rings remained a popular piece of jewelry for women until the 1930s, when the Great Depression and the onset of war marked a change in behaviors nationwide. While the 1960s and ’70s saw a return in visibility for the accessory, it wasn’t until the 1980s that cocktail rings once again assumed their position as a beacon of luxury and glitz.

During the 20th century, the range of dazzling cocktail rings seems to have been limitless, from glimmering gold rings set with carved jade diamonds designed by David Webb to Pomellato’s pink quartz confections to striking Gucci butterfly rings with accent diamonds set in a pavé fashion.

So, how do you wear a cocktail ring? Cocktail rings “can be worn for almost anything — dinners, date nights, parties, special events, on the red carpet,” explains David Joseph of New York-based jewelry brand Bochic

Can you wear cocktail rings with other rings? “In my opinion, cocktail rings should stand on their own since they showcase a large gem in the center,” says Joseph.

These glamorous jewels can be worn inside or outside crowded taverns, in either daytime or nighttime with casual or dressy attire. On 1stDibs, find a wide variety of antique and vintage cocktail rings, including those offered by Chanel, whose elegant cocktail rings often feature pearls and, of course, diamonds, and sometimes were styled after showy flowers like the camellia, and Van Cleef & Arpels, whose detailed and intricate designs are viewed as miniature pieces of wearable art.
