Anton Michelsen 1968 for Royal Copenhagen Geometric Ring in Sterling & Porcelain
Located in Miami, FL
Geometric ring designed by Anton Michelsen for Royal Copenhagen. A vintage modernist geometric ring, created in Denmark by Anton Michelsen for the porcelain company of Royal Copenhagen, back in the 1960's. This sculptural ring was crafted in .925/.999 sterling silver and embellished on top with a cubist element made of glazed white porcelain and a spherical element floating in the middle. This rare ring was produced in very limited quantities in the late 1960’s as part of the ‘Royal Bini’ collection of ceramic jewelry produced by Royal Copenhagen after the acquisition of Georg Jensen. This collection was sold exclusively through the Georg Jensen shop in Copenhagen in the late 1960’s. The ring itself, like the rest of the collection, is sleek, refined and high impact. Has a total weight of 13.5 Grams and the actual size is 5.5, sizeable. Top view measurements are 19 mm by 19 mm and raise 19 mm over the finger. Stamped with the maker's mark for Royal Copenhagen, the Danish hallmarks and signed, "A.M. DENMARK STERLING 925". Anton Michelsen (1809–1877) was born 1809 in Copenhagen Denmark, he completed a goldsmith's apprenticeship in Odense in 1839 before moving back to Copenhagen where he continued his training in Dyrkoph's and court goldsmith J.B. Dalhoff's workshops. He also attended the Royal Danish Academy of Arts where he was influenced by Gustavfriedrich Hersch. In 1836, he went on a long journey abroad, working in some of the leading goldsmiths in Germany and Paris. He established his own goldsmith in Gothersgade, Copenhagen when he returned to Denmark in 1841. He immediately won the attention of the royal family and the king Christian VIII charged him with executing all Danish orders with title of royal court and order jeweler. Michelsen was the only Danish goldsmith who was represented at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1855. The company of A. Michelsen, was a leading Danish jeweler founded in 1841 by Anton Michelsen in Copenhagen. It was responsible for executing all Danish royal orders and was absorbed by the Georg Jensen company in 1985. Note: "The Royal Bini was a new jewelry idea created by The Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Manufactory ceramists Doreen Middelboe...

Patek Philippe Swiss by Gilbert Albert 1960 Important Ring 18Kt Gold with Pearl
Located in Miami, FL
A magnificent ring designed by Gilbert Albert (1930-2019) for Patek Philippe. This extremely rare piece was created in Switzerland back in the 1960 by the talented jeweler-artist Gilbert Albert for the Patek Philippe Company. A one-of a-kind piece, called in that time, "Pepites avec Perle" (nugget with pearl) crafted in solid 18 karats of yellow, rose and white gold, with heavily textured surfaces. The technique used to realize this piece is extremely difficult, because each gold elements need to be placed together, piece by piece forming the organized geometric effect of the final composition. Is embellished at top, with a natural large white pearl of 13.5 mm by 18.2 mm. Has a total weight of 40.7 grams and the actual ring size is 7, sizeable. The top view measures are 30 mm by 28 mm (1.18 x 1.10 Inches). Stamped, with the maker's mark PP for Patek Philippe, the swiss gold assay hallmarks and signed, "PP CO. .750", all inside a cartouche. Christies notes: "It was designed by the famous Geneva jeweler Gilbert Albert in the 1961, who was awarded for this creation called "Pépites avec Perles" or "gold nuggets with pearls" the "Prix de la Ville de Genève de la Montre et de la Joaillerie" in the category "Montre dame bijou, sans pierres" on 9 September 1960." Note: This ring was designed En-suite, with a wristwatch that was made in Switzerland back in 1960 and sold at Christie's Geneva, on may 18 2004. Literature: Christies, Geneva Swiss, Sale catalogue, May 18 2004 Lot-41, realized 230,400 SF. For similar examples. Exhibitions: Geneva 1960, Expo a la Ville de Geneva de la Montre et de la Joaillerie. Provenance: The Princess Windisch-Graetz, A private collection in Luxemburg. Gilbert Albert, born in Geneva, Switzerland in 1930, is a jewelry designer and one of the most influential jeweler artist of the 20th and 21th century with more than 10 world award winning prizes. Diamond and Sapphire Cocktail Rings and Other Antique and Vintage Cocktail Rings

A flashy symbol of wealth during the early 20th century, antique and vintage cocktail rings have gained broader appeal in the decades since for the hefty dose of glamour they bring to any ensemble.

Cocktail rings earned their name for their frequent appearances during glitzy cocktail parties at the height of the Prohibition era. Back then, these accessories were seen not only as statement pieces but as statements in and of themselves. They openly represented a sense of freedom and independence as well as a demonstration of opulence. After all, the 1920s heralded the Harlem Renaissance and Art Deco design, and a slew of social and cultural shifts meant that women in particular were breaking from pre–World War I conventions and embracing newfound freedoms to express themselves as individuals.

Women expressly wore cocktail rings on the fingers of their right hand versus the left, which was “reserved” for an engagement ring or wedding band, accessories definitely paid for by a suitor. And for cocktail rings, the bigger the colored gem at the center — which is usually mounted in a high setting — and the more elaborate the design, the stronger the likelihood of being noticed.

Cocktail rings remained a popular piece of jewelry for women until the 1930s, when the Great Depression and the onset of war marked a change in behaviors nationwide. While the 1960s and ’70s saw a return in visibility for the accessory, it wasn’t until the 1980s that cocktail rings once again assumed their position as a beacon of luxury and glitz.

During the 20th century, the range of dazzling cocktail rings seems to have been limitless, from glimmering gold rings set with carved jade diamonds designed by David Webb to Pomellato’s pink quartz confections to striking Gucci butterfly rings with accent diamonds set in a pavé fashion.

So, how do you wear a cocktail ring? Cocktail rings “can be worn for almost anything — dinners, date nights, parties, special events, on the red carpet,” explains David Joseph of New York-based jewelry brand Bochic

Can you wear cocktail rings with other rings? “In my opinion, cocktail rings should stand on their own since they showcase a large gem in the center,” says Joseph.

These glamorous jewels can be worn inside or outside crowded taverns, in either daytime or nighttime with casual or dressy attire.
