Lovers of the extraordinary appreciate the beauty of Victor Mayer's designs, which use extremely rare techniques such as genuine enamel or elaborate engravings. Since 1890, the company has stood for the finest jewellery Hand Made in Germany. It is an open secret that the most renowned brands, such as Fabergé, entrust the company with the production of their most exquisite collections. Reference: V1119/TÜ/PC/00/102_V1561/00/00/00/10245 Brand: VICTOR MAYER Collection: Romance Collection Material: 18k yellow gold, matt finish Vitreous enamel: translucent turquoise, guilloche Gemstones: 1 rubellite (pink tourmaline), 7 akoya pearls Measurements: app. 40.0 mm x 20.0 mm Clip on bale: hinged bale Anchor chain V1561/00/00/00/10245 is included. Length: 45 cm About lockets by Victor Mayer: Victor Mayer creates lockets to a degree of perfection and beauty matched by scarcely any other manufacture. This is reflected in the high precious metal weight. The gold shells and all moving parts such as the hinge, the picture frame and the bail are extremely durable. The bail is conveniently equipped with a clasp mechanism. > Send us two of your favorite photos. We fit them into your locket free of charge. About vitreuos enamel: The inimitably luminous colours are literally created "in the fire": layer by layer, enamel is carefully fired in at 800 degrees Celsius. During guilloching, the finest wave patterns are engraved into the gold, creating a unique depth effect. Vitreous means made of glass: the ancient technique is almost forgotten today and Victor Mayer is perhaps the last manufactory to master it at the highest level. About guilloché: Guilloché refers to a class of enamel with abstract geometric patterns cut into the surface of precious metals and showing clearly through the overlying glaze. The manner in which the design is engraved into the metal increases the luminous quality and play of colors in the translucent glaze when the object is rotated to catch the light. About Rubellite: Rubellite is the red or pink variety of tourmaline and is a member of elbaite. Rubellite is also the rarest gem in its gem family. It is occasionally mistaken for ruby. These gems typically contain inclusions. Rubellite is the most expensive and prized gem in the tourmaline group. The most valuable rubellites are those that are colored red and have no brown. Ones that are of ruby color are the most valuable. (Source: Wikipedia) About akoya pearls: The akoya pearl is a saltwater cultured pearl from the akoya oyster (Pinctada fucata martensii). Akoya are considered to be the classic pearl used for necklaces and other pearl jewelry, with perfect round shapes, bright mirror...

19thc Etruscan Revival 14k Gold Brooch Set with Carved Red Coral & Seed Pearls
Located in valatie, NY
19thc Etruscan Revival 14k Gold Brooch Set With Carved Coral and Silver Colored Seed Pearls. The pillow shaped concave sided brooch has an open-work gold wire border, the top with granulation and gold wire with filigree engraving on the gold wire in a scrolling design. The border is set with four, floral carved coral blossoms and the four corners are mounted with silver colored natural seed pearls and the sides with tapered free moving bullet shaped gold drops. Centering the brooch is a carved coral, sleeping putti. The warm burnished glow in the deep yellow gold was the result of a technique called bloomed gold. A high carat gold wash (22-24 kt), in this case over 14 kt gold. Bloomed gold is alloy deletion leaving a pure gold surface on a piece. This is a different look than gold plating as it leaves a nice frosted effect. These techniques were developed by the Etruscan's. They were master metal smiths and mined various ores including iron, tin, copper, silver, and gold and became famous for their metalworking. Italians have harvested coral...

Vintage and Antique Pearl Jewelry

The pearl has been synonymous with ladylike elegance since the Tudor period — learn what to look for when shopping for vintage and antique pearl jewelry as well as how to tell the origin of a pearl with our handy primer.

Every woman at some point in her life desires a simple strand of pearls. They are elegant, timeless, versatile — just ask Coco Chanel or Jacqueline Kennedy — and valuable. In 1917, Pierre Cartier famously traded a double-strand of natural pearls for a Fifth Avenue mansion, the Cartier brand’s flagship store ever since. And if you were born in the beginning of summer, pearl is the June birthstone.

It is possible to tell where a pearl originated from its appearance. Akoyas are usually round and white — the classic pearl, if you will. South Sea pearls are normally larger and vary in color; orangey yellow ones are not uncommon. Tahitian pearls are mostly black but can also be gray or brown, and between the Akoya and the South Sea varieties in size. Freshwater pearls, or Orientals, run the gamut in terms of color and size, but in shape, they tend to resemble Rice Krispies. Another important distinction is a round pearl versus a baroque pearl. A round pearl is self-explanatory, but there are two types of baroque pearls: symmetrical and asymmetrical. In general, the symmetrical variation commands a higher valuation. Within a strand of pearls, uniformity is prized — the more the individual pearls resemble one another, the more valuable the strand.

According to the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), the earliest recorded mention of a pearl was in 2206 BC by a Chinese historian. Centuries later, Christopher Columbus made it a point to visit pearl fisheries during his 15th-century exploration of the Caribbean. Since the late-19th century, the Japanese have been at the forefront of cultivating pearls, when jeweler Kokichi Mikimoto successfully cultured the world’s first pearl in 1893.

On 1stDibs, find vintage and antique pearl necklaces, pearl earrings and other accessories.
