Ricky Hunt’s work is influenced by Egyptian hieroglyphs, graffiti and his tumultuous past that led to a paradigm shift in creativity and life. On his sculptural and three-dimensional mixed media artworks he covers the wood panel with carefully placed nails and creates intriguing portraits with thread woven through the nails. The harmony of the overall filography composition finds its way through his intricate threading of yarn into a cohesive visual statement. Hidden within the patterns and markings of this string art portrait are limitless points of interest, constantly revealing the imagery in a new way for us to discover. His works have been exhibited at galleries and art fairs internationally, including Los Angeles, New York, Zurich, Hong Kong and London.
This unique mixed media artwork measures 45 inches high by 42 inches wide and 3 inches deep. The shadows cast by the nails and black thread add a three-dimensional texture to this monochromatic artwork. It is wired and ready to hang. It does not require framing. Edward Lentsch’s expansive artistic practice explores his relationship between the self, nature and the universe. From the Fibonacci sequence to the teachings of Aristotle, Lentsch attempts to create a bridge between the natural world and these intellectual canons, exploring the interconnection between the realms of science and mysticism, the metaphysical and the spiritual. He explores how these three facets are integrated within a global environment and moreover how we, as humans, fit within this complex matrix of thought using the ideas of some of the world’s greatest writers and scholars.
Lentsch works across a variety of media to create an ‘energy of intention’, in which textures, compositions and colours (or their absence) are combined. At first glance, his abstract canvases bring to mind the earthen tones of Kiefer, or the scratched surfaces of Tàpies. Lentsch, however, draws from a broader art historical canon, and painting becomes an extension of the life force around him, a transformative experience through which he can mediate a pure experiential moment. Flowing from a nonverbal intuitive state of creative expression, Lentsch bridges a complex visual language in which colours and textures are lifted from the natural world. On canvas, they are refracted and tessellated, at times put through the process of entropy, which allows for them to be transformed and transmuted.

Resin can also seal artwork, and many artists tint it using pigment powder, ink, spray paint and other vivid materials. If water is added, the resin will turn milky instead of being completely transparent. It’s common for artists working in mixed media to use resin on nontraditional surfaces like glass, wood, metal and stone. This creates a shine that’s perfect to brighten a dull space in the home or office.
