Elegant eglomisé mirrored glass panel painting by Leon Masson (1911 - 1987). This finely etched plaque features a young naked woman on a balcony with a blackbird. The background's details show a lush landscape with a town or village on the hillside. The engraved signature of the artist is in the bottom right corner. The eglomised mirror panel is encased into two sheets of clear glass, then framed with a contemporary blackened carved wood frame with Renaissance style. Measurements: Overall with frame: 18.19 in. wide (46.5 cm) x 21.44 in. high (54.5 cm). Plaque size: 10 in wide (25.5 cm) x 13.19 in. high (33.5 cm). MEDUSA by Rocky Dobey is a hand-inscribed copper sheet with cut diamonds, blue machinist ink and fired porcelain paint. It measures 36 x 48", and framed in aluminum it measures 37 x 49”. It features some of the artist’s notable motifs – a monstrous brick wall with crenelated and flaming towers, inlaid with sparkles of diamond and glass, sword-like flames. New for the artist are the twisting, turning bodies of which there are at least eight. The deep blue background of machinist ink coating the copper provides a momentous, mythological night sky. For over 40 years, outsider artist Rocky Dobey has been producing intaglio prints, etched metal plaques, engraved copper sheets and site-specific public sculptures. Working anonymously for the first two decades, his work has drawn attention to social and political issues like prison and justice reform, neighborhood gentrification, globalization, indigenous sovereignty, drug rehabilitation and homelessness. With striking imagery of demonic towers toppled in flames, horrific machines and cryptic symbols of oppression, Rocky's work soon became a recognized and sought-after stamp of organized resistance. Ryan Humphrey (born 1971) is an American artist who currently lives and works in New York City. Education: BFA, Ohio University, MFA, Hunter College, New York 1999; Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Maine, 2001; Whitney Museum of American Art Independent Study Program, NY, 2005-2006 Ryan Humphrey grew up in a small town in Ohio building things in his yard, riding BMX bikes and skateboarding. He then moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for the next three years to work at The Carnegie Museum of Art and obtain a commercial art degree where he developed an interest in contemporary fine art. This inspired him (along with a scholarship) to attend Ohio University where he earned his BFA in Sculpture. After moving to New York City he received his MFA from Hunter College, paying his way through school by working at The Dia Center for the Arts. After attending The Skowhegan summer residency program in Maine he worked for The Andy Warhol Foundation and participated in the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program. He has exhibited extensively. He currently lives and works in New York City. His work has been featured in the traveling exhibition Will Boys Be Boys? Questioning Adolescent Masculinity in Contemporary Art :Photograph, video, painting and sculpture curated by Shamim Momin of the Whitney Museum of American Art. His large-scale installation, titled Fast Forward (2009), included BMX ramps adjacent to a wall-to-ceiling assemblage tapestry, collection of trophies and customized BMX bikes, and he continued this theme in his installation Look for the dream that keeps coming back (2010) at Kunsthalle Galapagos. Humphrey expresses his growing up in BMX and skateboard culture through his art. The assemblage also included several paintings, created by the artist for the exhibition, and several sculptures of BMX bike wheels. The paintings were small drips that recall the works of Jackson Pollock, and the BMX sculptures are similar to Marcel Duchamp's Bicycle Wheel. The installation included an opening night performance by legendary BMX pro Dizz Hicks and Ryan Humphrey on the ramps. An edition of 20 silkscreen posters was made by the artist, and signed by himself and Dizz Hicks, to commemorate the event. Meike Legler 'Jewels Of Life,' 2021 Cotton fabrics, linen, wool and bleach over stretched canvas 48 x 36 inches Meike Legler’s works are a bold post-feminist reframing of sewn objects, recontextualized far beyond “women’s work.” In 1918 Le Corbusier said, “There is a hierarchy in the arts: decorative art at the bottom and human form at the top. I am artist and furniture maker working in new Hampshire. I use nails to create intricate patterns on all variety of objects and surfaces The nails are glued into pilot holes, clipped, sanded flush with the surface, then polished. The result is a pattern of shiny dots of various dimeters. I create objects and furniture that is generally modern in form but highly decorated with as many as 11,000 nails. I use this nail inlay technique to make non-functional objects. The first were wall pieces. These pieces are not for a particular customer so I am much more free to express myself. The imagery and patterns are culled from endless web searches. A favorite has been Japanese stencils called katagami. I have hundreds saved and an equal number altered to fit my liking. My current interest is searching images from artist’s sketchbooks. A favorite is a very quick Donald Judd sketch of a simple object to be fabricated with a large “$60,000” written above. I have also used prints and drawings by my father. My current work involves nail patterns on firewood from my Father’s wood pile. He died 20 years ago but his wood pile remains untouched. He was the minimalist’s minimalist - constructing large sculptures from a few strands of yarn. The installation space is transformed with this simple use of this simple material.
