Untitled - Abstract Expression is an original artwork realized by Giorgio Lo Fermo in 2017. Oil on canvas applied on plywood. Perfect conditions.
It represents a blue shape with soft outlines and a red line in the middle of it. The composition is characterized by rapid and large brushstrokes, and bright colors. The title of the artwork is very important, since it refers to an important art movement born in America between 1940 and 1950: Abstract Expressionism. The term was applied to new forms of artistic language developed by American artists, such as Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Willem de Kooning, and Robert Motherwell. The color is used in an emotional and personal way, through abstract free shapes. Lo Fermo re-elaborates the artistic language of the past in a personal and contemporary way.
Giorgio Lo Fermo is an Italian painter and sculptor. He was born in Sicily in 1947, but has lived and worked in Rome since the mid-1960s. He studied at the School of Arts and Crafts of San Giacomo and then Sociology of Art at the University of Rome. His innovative style took form in the 70s, in the stimulating atmosphere of the new Rome, re-born through the creative vitality of Fellini and Rossellini. Lo Fermo’s style is a studied symbolic elaboration of varying rhythms, in which objectivity and logic give way to a liberal expression of the dynamic content. His concept is reanimated in color and in aesthetics, which take kinetic paths toward both reality and fantasy, connecting themselves intimately with experience and interior tension. During his career, Giorgio Lo Fermo has participated in international exhibitions in New York (1992), Stockholm (1992), Budapest (1992/1993), Hong Kong (1994) and in the International Art Competition of New York in 1995. He won several important recognitions and awards: the Italian Art Leader Award ’92, the Art and World Prize of Hong Kong in 1994; he was also nominated member of the Accademia Internazionale Greci/Marino. The major galleries in Rome, such as A. Consorti, Gradiva, Babuino and Yanika, exhibit his canvases, and his work is held in private collections both in Europe and in America

Tavern, is truly a rare find, an original oil on canvas, in compelling blues and grays with a touch of gold and orange. This work reveals more imagery and detail the longer one enjoys it. This painting was created during his years studying in Yale Art School, and draws different qualities to each new viewer similar to a Rorschach. Close's work is in the collections of most of the great international museums of contemporary art, including the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Metropolitan Museum of Art New York City. and the Tate Modern in London.
Artist Bio:
Chuck Close – (1940-2021) an American painter, artist and photographer born in Monroe, Washington. Early childhood illnesses including a neuromuscular condition, nephritis and dyslexia were compounded later in life by a condition known as prosopagnosia (face blindness), which may have inspired him to do portraits. Most of his early, large-format portraits are based on photographs, using photorealism or hyperrealism, of family and friends, often other artists. Close often painted abstract portraits of himself and others, which hang in collections internationally. Even though a catastrophic spinal artery collapse in 1988 left him severely paralyzed, he continued to paint inspired by artists like Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning. Close's first solo exhibition, held in 1967 at the University of Massachusetts Art Gallery, Amherst, featured paintings, painted reliefs, and drawings based on photographs of record covers.
