This original contemporary abstract work on paper by Deborah Dancy is comprised of grey, brown, white, blue, yellow, and black hues, in her signature built up/re-built space that as she says, "operate in a realm in which beauty and tension simultaneously exist without explanation or narrative."
Deborah Dancy is an abstract artist. Her paintings and drawings are sensuous provocations beset with marks that guide, then abruptly collide into confrontational slabs of color. There is an atmosphere of complex but urgent tension in her work, as she builds tangential linear demarcations, and abutting shapes, that provoke, entice and disrupt; -taking us everywhere and nowhere. From densely painted forms to more minimally declared images, Dancy’s work operates in the recognition that meanderings, intentional and accidental declarations are best when the beautiful and the disconcerting exist simultaneously.
Deborah Dancy was born in Bessemer, Alabama and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She earned BFA from Illinois Wesleyan University and an MS and an MFA from Illinois State University. She is the recipient of John Simon Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship, a Yaddo Fellow, and a National Endowment of the Arts NEFA award. "I welcome the continual emergence of change, evolution, and the inevitable challenges that
form a large part of a working artist’s life."
With CHEF'S HAT, a recent and evolving work, I am moving into more dimensionality and space.
My intention is to push patterned and embellished surfaces on paper from its naturally flat
surface into a more structural and spatial plane. This involves making sculptural pieces from
paper and experimenting with new construction methods using strips and lengths of paper
over-lapped and fastened together, shaped into objects with physical presence. I feel I am
migrating from the flat surface into the third dimension. I envision the paper constructions
as a landscape to be wandered in and out of, through and around, a space that invites all
and sundry to enter on their own terms. I hold firmly to the belief that my work exhibits a
playfulness that belies a more serious assessment of our social world. I am interested in how
something that is initially perceived as frivolous and celebratory can constitute a reaction
against and resistance to the shadowy world of misfortune, hard luck, and weariness.
Born in 1959, Lanie Gannon was predominantly inspired by the 1970s. Conceptualism is often perceived as a reaction to Minimalism, and the leading art movement of the 1970s, challenging the boundaries of art with its revolutionary features. The movements that succeeded were all representative of a strong desire to evolve and strengthen the art world, in response to the tensions of the previous 1960s. Process art branched...

Anthony Benjamin was a 20th Century abstract precisionist artist. Born in London in 1931 he was active throughout the second half of the 20th century. Experimental, hugely talented and obsessive, Benjamin moved fluidly between mediums and refused to be tied to any practise. He trained with the best, amongst others with Hayter at Atelier 17 in Paris and was recognised by the Royal Society of the Arts, his pier group and leading Galleries and Institutions who displayed and collected his work.
Anthony Benjamin was also daring. At at time when the art-world was fixated with the St Ives Group of artists, Benjamin, who was part of this group, chose to leave. Although adept at making St Ives abstractionism it did not sit naturally with him. He did not see value in its art.
Instead he sought to replicate abstraction in nature and was inspired by others who had also mastered this craft such as the Composer Brian Eno, with whom he later collaborated with and the Gnawa musicians of Morocco.
A trained engineering draughtsman, Benjamin's formally perfect artworks are always infused with an air of technical experimentation and a poetic response to the natural world. The artist was inspired by pattern and obsessed with process. He was a sculptor, printmaker, painter, draughtsman and used collage, canvas, brass, perspex, steel, paper and anything that inspired him.
Throughout his career, Benjamin made monumental paintings. In the studio he thought, pondered and considered every move. It was during these periods of contemplation that he would make warm up paintings that were beautifully loose, almost the antithesis in process to his large works. This one is African American kids in a park at the water fountain. Titled "Squart" (squirt)
The artist Loren Munk (born 1951) is primarily known for his YouTube nickname James Kalm as an uploader of videos about New York exhibitions, amongst others. He presents himself as a maker of contemporary paintings for several decades and of cubist paintings of urban imagery. Munk has received accolades for his drawings and mosaics. He differs from traditional mosaic artists by the manner in which he incorporates glass into his decorative paintings. His unique and innovative use of materials such as mirror, gold-leaf and glass mosaic affirmed him as a founding force of Kitsch Art and a leading member of New York Neo-Expressionism.
Munk's work debuted in SoHo in 1981 with a double show at J. Fields Gallery and Gabrielle Bryers. Since then, he has overseen an international career. In addition to exhibiting in Brazil, France, Germany and the United States, Munk has received national and overseas, public and private commissions. He is well represented in important collections throughout Europe, South and North America and the Middle East.
Most recently, Munk has been producing a series of paintings which tackle the subject of art itself through a historical and diagrammatic lens. Munk documents the New York art world in YouTube videos, using the name James Kalm.

This artwork is part of Kuttner's "Cut-Out" series where the artist uses a process, not unlike that of Matisse late in his career.
