Modernist Dry Pigment Plaster Lacquer Abstract Geometric Painting Gregg Robinson
Located in Surfside, FL
Gregg Robinson, American (born 1948) Canvas mounted on wood board work of art depicts geometric shapes and forms with a lacquered high gloss finish. Hand signed lower left and dated 1995. Dimensions: 24 X 24 X 1.75 in. GREGG ROBINSON The universe of visual art encompasses a huge spectrum of motivation and means of expression. Examples range from the most syrupy sentimentality to extremes of moral and intellectual confrontation. For me, the creative process is, on the simplest level, an aesthetic puzzle. Elements of the puzzle include contrast, color, visual texture, graphic pattern, and in some recent work, a simple cryptic symbolism. I have never been particularly interested in lyric or pictorial content, and though some of my work does contain undeniable spatial illusion, even that tends to be a by-product rather than a goal of the primary pursuit: the balance of light and dark, pure color and organic neutrals, energy and calm, strong pattern and subtle field. Having grown up in an environment of contemporary architecture, I have always valued the classic modern synthesis of form and function exemplified by the Bauhaus movement of the early 20th century. Hence, the simplest solutions are often the most satisfying. Obviously, the modernist ideal of efficiency in form and function requires that method of execution be as well adapted to the aesthetic goal as the visual language itself. The media before you is the result of many years of experimentation that came to its current form in early 1992. I work with dry pigment over a plaster surface. My tools are broad knives, sponges, rags and masking. The finish is a high gloss alkyd resin. His prints have been published by GalleryOnline, publishers of Per Arnoldi, Ricardo benaim, Pierre Marie Brisson, Simon Bull, Fanch Ledan, Claude Gaveau and Laurent Schkolnyk and more. In My Arms - Abstract Versus Figurative Oil Painting with Blue and Rust Colors
Located in New York, NY
Parris Jaru's In My Arms is a 30 x 24 inches oil painting. The main colors are aqua blue, yellow, and rust. The surface is defined by a thick impasto of paint, made with plant-based pigments that Jaru collects himself during his long exploratory trips through India. This painting is part of a new series that concentrates on using natural colors only, extracted from plants. Natural Indigo, Turmeric, Hibiscus, Beet Root, Rosemary Leaf, Aloe Extract, and Holi Powders to name a few, mixed with Babul Tree Resin. Though the overall composition is abstract, there is a perception of figuration. A very thin wavy white line runs through the contours of the figures, defining an image within the image. Parris was born in NY and grew up in St. Ann's Bay, Jamaica until he was ten years old. Partly Jamaican and Blackfoot Indian...

Apache Revolution - Poetry Painting With Photograph of Geronimo From 1886
Located in New York, NY
Parris Jaru's Apache Revolution is a 20 x 16 inches oil painting. The surface is defined by a thick impasto of paint, made with plant based pigments that Jaru collects himself during his long exploratory trips through India. The surface is scraped and incised with words and signs, almost like graffiti on a wall or inscriptions on an archaeological fragment. A copy of the famous homeland security poster from 1886, picturing Apache leader Geronimo and 3 warriors, is placed in the center. Parris was born in NY and grew up in St. Ann's Bay, Jamaica, until he was ten years old. Partly Jamaican and Blackfoot Indian from his father's side and partly Arawak Indian from his mother, Parris brings into his creative process a wonderful mix of different ethnicities that reflects throughout his work. The artist states "Throughout my life I have always been dedicated to Art but painting has added a patience of perception and love to my conscience mind, as well cultivating my unconscious. Painting gives me a confidence and inner security that has been hard for me to attain elsewhere. When I say a piece has turned out really well, a certain balance has been achieved between composition, perspective, color and depth giving my creative side a jolt. Although my works change frequently in form depending on mood and inspiration, the one thing that remains the same in all my works is an abstract touch. I am drawn mostly to abstract expression for the free-flowing aspect of creation. My favorite material is Plant-Pigment-Powder (ex; Sea Algae, Hibiscus, Gymnema Sylvestre and Turmeric powder. Mixing these pigments reminds me that nature is the purest example of artistic perfection and composition open to interpretation for all. With this understanding I am able to open communications with the energies of nature. the main purpose of these herbs are for medicinal healing, when I add it to my medium it adds an ethereal quality to my works. When I select my materials, I am very specific with my choices, after trial and error I work exclusively with denser herbs giving me the texture I desire and is compatible with oil paints and acrylics, adding depth and longevity to the works. Although I am drawn to blues, reds and blacks for body, my favorite colors are the highlights, whites, yellows and light grey. I know a piece is done when it feels right, with clarity, movement and composition also complementing my sense of imagination. When my work is going well, I am filled with a sense of wonder and creative joy open to all possibilities of creation. When people see my painting’s I like them to share a part of my thoughts and inspiration, looking at the artist and his works from the inside. I reach my end goal when the painting has connected another link in the chain of an individual’s emotions."
