About the Item
This stunning, large British Impressionist 1940's landscape oil painting is by noted Nottingham artist Arthur Spooner. It was exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists in 1943 and was painted at that time. The location is Clifton Hill and the view towards Nottingham. In the foreground is a track between two huge trees and the land then slopes away towards fields and trees with Nottingham and its industrialisation in the distance. The vibrant yellow and green of the fields beneath the blue sky is just beautiful. There is still good, heavy impasto in the bold brushwork. This is an excellent example of Spooner's work and a simply stunning landscape.
